The Berry vineyards tourist route
Berry is a French province well known for its many vineyards. During a weekend in this region, the vineyard route is available to you. It stretches for almost 170 kilometres and takes you on a tour of :
exceptional châteaux, cellars and hillsides;
- the wines produced in the region and the stages of local production
- the surrounding villages such as Saint-Aignan or Chinon;
- historical monuments such as the Château de Villandry, the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau and the Château Langeais.
Along the way, take part in wine tastings. Indeed, numerous tours and workshops will allow you to learn about the different types and grape varieties of Berry products.
The AOC appellations of the region
In addition to producing wine, Berry has the honour of having obtained the recognition of the Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) among its production of quality wines.
You will therefore encounter during your journey :
- The wines of Chinon and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil: cabernet franc grape variety and red colour, dry, tannic and fruity.
- The wines of Bourgueil: with the same grape variety and colour as the previous ones, but with a spicy rather than fruity taste.
- The wines of Vouvray: chenin grape variety and white colour, dry or sweet, elegant and fruity.
- The wines of Montlouis-sur-Loire which have the same characteristics as Vouvray but a drier taste in the mouth.
There are still other AOCs in the Berry vineyards. So don't be surprised when you taste them!
Discover the vineyards in a different way
You don't need to drink to understand and learn about wine. A weekend trip to the vineyards of Berry will also give you the chance to walk through the hillsides. This is a great way to discover the region from another angle, while being close to the wine.
There are also many museums dedicated to the history of wine making in the region. The life and production of Berry wines will no longer hold any secrets for you!
Finally, to be sure to see and know everything about the area, don't hesitate to enjoy the local gastronomy or participate in outdoor activities!
